When you travel to Kashan, Iran, it is obviouse that you have seen pictures of Borujerdi House and you came to Kashan to visit it. I’ve seen it many times but again and again I find myself in this house and just watch every single detail.

History of Borujerdi House

There is an ongoing story about this house. They say years ago, a young man called “Seyed Hasan Nazari” felt in love with daughter of a wealthy family in Kashan call Tabatabaei family. Father of the girl (Seyed Jafar Tabatabaei one of the greatest Persian carpet and rug traders) said if you want my daughter, you have to build a house like ours nearby. Young man accepted the deal and it took 7 years to finish the main yard area and another 11 years for rest of the house (18 years in total) to build the whole house for this new cupule.

The building is built by Ustad Ali Maryam one of the greatest architects in Iran and famous painters such as Kamalo-al Molk (the grate painter in Iran) and their students did the painting of this house.

It was the best touristic place by UNESCO in 2015 and 2016.

Architecture of Borujerdi House

As I mentioned earlier this place built by Ustad Ali Maryam near the Tabatabaei house and Sultan Amir Ahmad Bathhouse in the center of Kashan.

It is a complex with 1700 squire meters with 1000 squire meters building base including a Andaruni (private area) and Biruni (Public area), two main and peripheral entrance, Hashti, Hall, Yards, summer part and winter part, kitchen, yards with ceiling and underground rooms. It is a two-story building with an additional basement which is Sardab.

There are some wind catcher called Bardgir on the roof which are connected to inside the building and act as a natural air conditioner specially for summer.

Every where, seriously everywhere you see, you will find a design with magnificent details on walls, ceilings and even ground surface.

There are many valuable paintings mostly chalk paintings which were made under observations of grate painters named “Sani ol Malek” and “Kamalo-al Molk”.
